Basic control unit SMG (exchange unit) — a genuine BMW part, number 23 60 7 837 088. The number stamped on the part is 23607837088; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 7837088. BMW's catalog calls it “EXCH basic control unit SMG”. You will find it on our Transmission shelf, under Other Manual gearbox parts. It supersedes the older number 7836756, so a part carrying that number is the same part. BMW has since replaced it with 7837716.

BMW's catalog records no E36 or E46 it is fitted to; it belongs to other BMW models.

It weighs about 376 g (0.8 lb).

We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
