Basic control unit SMG (exchange unit) — a genuine BMW part, number 23 60 7 542 359. The number stamped on the part is 23607542359; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 7542359. BMW's catalog calls it “EXCH basic control unit SMG”. You will find it on our Transmission shelf, under Other Manual gearbox parts. It supersedes the older number 7552688, so a part carrying that number is the same part.

It fits every E46 body style (325i and 330i, 2001–2006), with the M54 engine — and the European-market versions.

BMW draws it on the Basic control unit SMG (23_0912) diagram. It weighs about 400 g (0.9 lb).

We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
