This is a genuine BMW shaft seal, part number 23 12 1 282 458. The number stamped on the part is 23121282458; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 1282458. You will find it on our Transmission shelf, under Bearing in housing, sealing rings. It supersedes the older number 7537915, so a part carrying that number is the same part.
It fits every E46 body style (325xi and 330xi, 2001–2005), with the M54 engine — and the European-market versions.
BMW draws it on 7 diagrams, among them GS5-39DZ grbx housing and mount. parts (23_0872) and S5D...Z housing + mounting parts,4-wheel (23_0891). It weighs about 20 g (under 0.1 lb). It also comes in BMW kit Gasket set (7511935).
