Basic control unit DME (exchange unit) — a genuine BMW part, number 12 14 1 743 259. The number stamped on the part is 12141743259; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 1743259. BMW's catalog calls it “EXCH Basic control unit DME”. You will find it on our Electrical shelf, under Other Engine Electrical System parts. It supersedes the older numbers 1743055 and 1743252, so a part carrying any of them is the same part. BMW has since replaced it with 1427691.

It fits the E36 convertible (318i, 1994–1999), with the M42 engine.
