This is a genuine BMW basic control unit DME (exchange unit), part number 12 14 1 429 767. The number stamped on the part is 12141429767; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 1429767. BMW's catalog calls it “EXCH Basic control unit DME”. You will find it on our Electrical shelf, under Other Engine Electrical System parts. It supersedes the older number 1427691, so a part carrying that number is the same part. BMW has since replaced it with 1427695.

It fits the E36 sedan and coupe (318i, 1992–1999), with the M42 engine.

BMW draws it on the Uncoded DME control unit (12_1979) diagram. It weighs about 561 g (1.2 lb).
