Genuine BMW part 12 14 1 703 942: Basic control unit DME (exchange unit). The number stamped on the part is 12141703942; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 1703942. BMW's catalog calls it “EXCH Basic control unit DME”. You will find it on our Electrical shelf, under Other Engine Electrical System parts. It supersedes the older numbers 1703641 and 1703808, so a part carrying any of them is the same part. BMW has since replaced it with 1744709.

It fits the E36 sedan, coupe and convertible (320i, 1992–1995), with the M50 engine.
