E46 M3 (S54) Rod Bearing Replacement
Rod bearing replacement for the E46 M3’s S54 engine — the known wear item — done with the engine in the car.
The S54 in the E46 M3 is known for wearing its connecting rod bearings, and a spun bearing usually means a new engine. Many owners replace them as maintenance rather than wait.
The job is done with the engine in the car: the oil pan comes off, the bearings are replaced with new bolts, and the old shells show how worn they were. We quote it in writing first.
Signs it needs doing
- You own an E46 M3 with unknown or original bearings
- Low oil pressure warnings
- A knock from the bottom of the engine (stop driving it)
What the job covers
- Oil pan removed
- Rod bearings and rod bolts replaced
- The old shells inspected and photographed
- Oil pan gasket, oil and filter
What it costs
Every car is different at this age, so we price it once we have seen yours. Yes. You get a written estimate by email with a private link, and you approve it job by job — or decline what you don’t want. We won’t go over the estimate you approved by more than Colorado allows (10% or 25 dollars, whichever is less) without asking you first.
