The number stamped on the part is 23227501326; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 7501326. You will find it on our Transmission shelf, under Gear wheels. It supersedes the older number 1228347, so a part carrying that number is the same part. BMW has since replaced it with 1228489.
It fits every E36 body style (318i, 318ti, 320i, 323i and 325i, 1992–1999), with the M40, M42, M43, M44, M50 or M52 engines — and the European-market versions. It also fits the E46 sedan and coupe (316i, 1999–2004), with the M43, N40, N42 or N45 engines.
BMW draws it on 5 diagrams, among them S5D...G countershaft/reverse gear (23_0224) and S5D...G countershaft/reverse gear (23_0226). BMW's catalog calls for two of these at each place it is fitted. It weighs about 74 g (0.2 lb).
