It fits every E36 body style (318i, 318ti, 320i, 323i and 325i, 1992–1999), with the M40, M42, M43, M44, M50 or M52 engines — and the European-market versions. It also fits the E46 sedan and coupe (316i, 1999–2004), with the M43, N40, N42 or N45 engines.
BMW draws it on 4 diagrams, among them S5D...G countershaft/reverse gear (23_0224) and S5D...G countershaft/reverse gear (23_0226). BMW's catalog calls for two of these at each place it is fitted. It weighs about 70 g (0.2 lb).
