03 View BMW DiagramSee this part on the official exploded view→Transmission cover — a genuine BMW part, number 23 11 1 228 261. The number stamped on the part is 23111228261; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 1228261. You will find it on our Transmission shelf, under Housing with cover. BMW's catalog records no E36 or E46 it is fitted to; it belongs to other BMW models.
BMW draws it on 6 diagrams, among them Getrag 280 Housing+attaching Parts (23_0214) and Getrag 280 Housing+attaching Parts (23_0215). It weighs about 2.4 kg (5.2 lb).
We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
