Output flange — a genuine BMW part, number 23 21 1 224 970. The number stamped on the part is 23211224970; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 1224970. You will find it on our Transmission shelf, under Transmission shafts. It supersedes the older number 1224860, so a part carrying that number is the same part.

It fits the E36 sedan, coupe, convertible and touring (325i, 328i and M3, 1992–1999), with the M50, M52, S50 or S52 engines — and the European-market versions. It also fits every E46 body style (325i, 328i and 330i, 1999–2006), with the M52 or M54 engines — and the European-market versions.

BMW draws it on 6 diagrams, among them S5D...Z drive shaft/output shaft (23_0126) and GS5S31BZ(SMG) Drive-/Output shaft (23_0938). It weighs about 690 g (1.5 lb).

We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
