Genuine BMW part 01 29 9 797 487: Install.instructions, hand protector. The number stamped on the part is 01299797487; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 9797487. You will find it on our Supplies & Hardware shelf, under Other Technical Literature parts. It supersedes the older number 9797373, so a part carrying that number is the same part.
BMW's catalog records no E36 or E46 it is fitted to; it belongs to other BMW models.
BMW draws it on the Installation instructions (01_0550) diagram. It weighs about 40 g (under 0.1 lb). It also comes in BMW kit Set Hand Protector (2316588).
We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
