Genuine BMW part 12 13 1 703 228: Ignition coil. The number stamped on the part is 12131703228; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 1703228. You will find it on our Electrical shelf, under Ignition coil.

It fits every E36 body style (320i, 323i and 328i, 1992–1999), with the M52 engine — and the European-market versions. It also fits every E46 body style (320i, 323i, 325i, 328i and 330i, 1999–2006), with the M52 or M54 engines — and the European-market versions.

BMW draws it on 8 diagrams, among them Igtn. coil/sparkplug connector/sparkplug (12_0409) and Ignition coil/spark plug (12_0425). BMW's catalog calls for six of these at each place it is fitted. It weighs about 304 g (0.7 lb).
