This is a genuine BMW gasket Asbestos Free, part number 23 12 1 222 359. The number stamped on the part is 23121222359; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 1222359. You will find it on our Transmission shelf, under Bearing in housing, sealing rings. It supersedes the older number 1202725, so a part carrying that number is the same part.
BMW's catalog records no E36 or E46 it is fitted to; it belongs to other BMW models.
BMW draws it on 17 diagrams, among them Getrag 265/5 Cover+attach.Parts (23_0007) and Getrag 265/5 Cover+attach.Parts (23_0008). It weighs about 4 g (under 0.1 lb). It also comes in BMW kit Asbestos-Free Gasket Set (9065642).
We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
