Genuine BMW part 12 31 7 526 285: Generator, water-cooled (exchange unit). The number stamped on the part is 12317526285; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 7526285. BMW's catalog calls it “EXCH generator, water-cooled”. You will find it on our Electrical shelf, under Alternator with motor and mounting. It supersedes the older number 7509109, so a part carrying that number is the same part. BMW has since replaced it with 7523605.
