Backup ring — a genuine BMW part, number 23 11 1 205 524. The number stamped on the part is 23111205524; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 1205524. You will find it on our Transmission shelf, under Housing with cover. It supersedes the older number 1205523, so a part carrying that number is the same part.

BMW's catalog records no E36 or E46 it is fitted to; it belongs to other BMW models.

BMW draws it on 16 diagrams, among them Getrag 265/5 Cover+attach.Parts (23_0014) and Getrag 265/5 Cover+attach.Parts (23_0015). It weighs about 160 g (0.4 lb).

We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
