Air filter element — a genuine BMW part, number 13 72 1 720 861. The number stamped on the part is 13721720861; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 1720861. You will find it on our Air Intake shelf, under AIR CLEANER. It supersedes the older number 1715881, so a part carrying that number is the same part.

It fits every E36 body style (318i, 1992–1999), with the M40, M42 or M43 engines — and the European-market versions.

BMW draws it on 12 diagrams, among them Suction Silencer/Filter Cartridge (13_0314) and Suction Silencer/Filter Cartridge (13_0323). It weighs about 193 g (0.4 lb).

We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
