This is a genuine BMW valve unit, part number 52 10 7 004 689. The number stamped on the part is 52107004689; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 7004689. You will find it on our Interior Body shelf, under Tail trim. It supersedes the older number 8099009, so a part carrying that number is the same part.

It fits every E46 body style (320i, 323i and 325i, 1999–2006), with the M52, M54 or M56 engines — and the European-market versions.

BMW draws it on 8 diagrams, among them Front Seat Backrest Frame/Rear Panel (52_2305) and Front Seat Backrest Frame/Rear Panel (52_2316). BMW's catalog calls for two of these at each place it is fitted. It weighs about 122 g (0.3 lb).
