The number stamped on the part is 11121715253; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 1715253. You will find it on our Engine shelf, under Cylinder head with cover. It supersedes the older number 1715464, so a part carrying that number is the same part.
It fits every E36 body style (318i, 1992–1999), with the M40 or M43 engines — and the European-market versions. It also fits the E46 sedan, coupe and touring (316i, 316i 1.6, 316i 1.9 and 318i, 1997–2001), with the M43 engine.
BMW draws it on 11 diagrams, among them Cylinder head (11_1144) and Cylinder head (11_1193). BMW's catalog calls for four of these at each place it is fitted. It weighs about 21 g (under 0.1 lb).
We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
