This is a genuine BMW support right, part number 51 46 8 146 708. The number stamped on the part is 51468146708; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 8146708. You will find it on our Interior Body shelf, under Other Body equipment parts. It supersedes the older number 7134184, so a part carrying that number is the same part.
It fits the E36 compact (318ti, 1995–1999), with the M42 or M44 engines — and the European-market versions. It also fits the E46 compact (316ti, 318td, 318ti, 320td and 325ti, 2001–2004), with the M47N, M54, N40, N42, N45 or N46 engines.
BMW draws it on 2 diagrams, among them Rear Window Shelf (51_2180) and Rear Window Shelf (51_4497). It weighs about 5 g (under 0.1 lb).
We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
