Steering column tube painted — a genuine BMW part, number 32 31 1 162 183. The number stamped on the part is 32311162183; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 1162183. You will find it on our Steering shelf, under Other Steering parts. It supersedes the older number 1161366, so a part carrying that number is the same part.
It fits the E36 sedan, coupe, convertible and compact (318i, 318ti, 320i, 325i, 328i and M3, 1992–1999), with the M40, M42, M43, M50, M52 or S50 engines — and the European-market versions.
BMW draws it on the Fixed Steering Column Tube (32_0710) diagram. It weighs about 959 g (2.1 lb).
We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
