This is a genuine BMW shaft seal, part number 24 10 1 218 852. The number stamped on the part is 24101218852; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 1218852. You will find it on our Transmission shelf, under Mounting / suspension.
It fits every E36 body style (318i, 318ti, 323i, 325i and 328i, 1992–1999), with the M40, M42, M43, M44, M50 or M52 engines — and the European-market versions. It also fits the E46 sedan (316i 1.9 and 318i, 1997–2001), with the M43 engine.
BMW draws it on 4 diagrams, among them A4S 270R/310R selector rod (24_0801) and A4S 270R/310R selector rod/transm.switch (24_0807). It weighs about 3 g (under 0.1 lb). It also comes in BMW kit Gasket set (1218856).
