Self-locking hex nut — a genuine BMW part, number 31 32 1 139 422. The number stamped on the part is 31321139422; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 1139422. You will find it on our Suspension shelf, under Other Front Axle parts. It supersedes the older number 2160247, so a part carrying that number is the same part.

It fits every E36 body style (318i, 318ti, 320i, 323i and 325i, 1992–1999), with the M40, M42, M43, M44, M50 or M52 engines — and the European-market versions.

BMW draws it on 41 diagrams, among them Guide Support/Spring Pad/Attaching Parts (31_0087) and Guide Support/Spring Pad/Attaching Parts (31_0134). It weighs about 20 g (under 0.1 lb).
