Seam seal — a genuine BMW part, number 83 42 2 409 985. The number stamped on the part is 83422409985; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 2409985. It supersedes the older number 0428349, so a part carrying that number is the same part.

It fits the E36 coupe and convertible (318i, 323i, 325i, 328i and M3, 1992–1999), with the M42, M43, M44, M50, M52 or S50 and other engines — and the European-market versions. It also fits every E46 body style (316i, 316i 1.6, 316i 1.9, 316ti, 318d, 318i, 318td and 3 others, 1997–2004), with the M43, M47, M47N, M52, M54 or N40 and other engines.

BMW draws it on 141 diagrams, among them Side Panel/Tail Trim (41_0000) and Front wheelhouse (41_1096).
