This is a genuine BMW roller bushing, part number 23 12 1 282 566. The number stamped on the part is 23121282566; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 1282566. You will find it on our Transmission shelf, under Bearing in housing, sealing rings. BMW has since replaced it with 1224077.

It fits every E36 body style (318i, 318ti, 320i, 323i and 325i, 1992–1999), with the M40, M42, M43, M44, M50 or M52 engines — and the European-market versions. It also fits the E46 sedan and coupe (316i, 1999–2004), with the M43, N40, N42 or N45 engines.

BMW draws it on 42 diagrams, among them S5D...G countershaft/reverse gear (23_0224) and S5D...G countershaft/reverse gear (23_0226). It weighs about 100 g (0.2 lb).
