This is a genuine BMW needle sleeve, part number 12 31 1 713 153. The number stamped on the part is 12311713153; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 1713153. You will find it on our Electrical shelf, under Alternator with motor and mounting.

It fits every E36 body style (320i, 323i, 325i, 328i and M3, 1992–1999), with the M50, M52, S50 or S52 engines — and the European-market versions. It also fits the E46 sedan, coupe, convertible and touring (320i, 323i and 325i, 1999–2006), with the M52 or M54 engines — and the European-market versions.

BMW draws it on 14 diagrams, among them Belt Drive Water Pump/Alternator (11_1344) and Belt Drive Water Pump/Alternator (11_1499). BMW's catalog calls for two of these at each place it is fitted. It weighs about 10 g (under 0.1 lb).
