This is a genuine BMW map pocket, part number 52 10 7 249 588. The number stamped on the part is 52107249588; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 7249588. You will find it on our Interior Body shelf, under Tail trim. It supersedes the older number 7123556, so a part carrying that number is the same part.
BMW's catalog records no E36 or E46 it is fitted to; it belongs to other BMW models.
BMW draws it on 2 diagrams, among them Front Seat Backrest Frame/Rear Panel (52_2998) and Seat, front, rear panel (52_3931). It weighs about 600 g (1.3 lb). It also comes in BMW kit Seat assembly, complete (2185849).
We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
