The number stamped on the part is 16111181142; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 1181142. You will find it on our Fuel System shelf, under Fuel tank with filler pipe. It supersedes the older number 1179636, so a part carrying that number is the same part.
It fits every E36 body style (318i, 318ti, 320i, 323i and 325i, 1992–1999), with the M40, M42, M43, M44, M50 or M52 engines — and the European-market versions.
BMW draws it on 8 diagrams, among them Sending Unit Assy Plastic Fuel Tank (16_0189) and Fuel pump and fuel level sensor (16_0206). BMW's catalog calls for two of these at each place it is fitted. It weighs about 80 g (0.2 lb).
