The number stamped on the part is 31311091773; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 1091773. You will find it on our Suspension shelf, under Other Front Axle parts. It supersedes the older numbers 1090711, 1090713, 1090719 and 1091091, so a part carrying any of them is the same part.
It fits the E36 sedan, coupe and compact (318i and 318ti, 1992–1999), with the M40, M42, M43 or M44 engines — and the European-market versions.
BMW draws it on 4 diagrams, among them Front Spring Strut/Shock Absorber (31_0417) and Front Spring Strut/Shock Absorber (31_0420). It weighs about 4.4 kg (9.7 lb).
We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
