Gas pressurized spring — a genuine BMW part, number 51 24 7 118 885. The number stamped on the part is 51247118885; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 7118885. You will find it on our Interior Body shelf, under Other Body equipment parts. It supersedes the older number 7038248, so a part carrying that number is the same part.

It fits the E46 compact (316ti, 318td, 318ti, 320td and 325ti, 2001–2004), with the M47N, M54, N40, N42, N45 or N46 engines.

BMW draws it on the Trunk Lid/Closing System (41_1403) diagram. BMW's catalog calls for two of these at each place it is fitted. It weighs about 382 g (0.8 lb).
