This is a genuine BMW fillister head self-tapping screw, part number 54 12 8 183 767. The number stamped on the part is 54128183767; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 8183767. You will find it on our Exterior Body shelf, under Other Sliding Roof / Folding Top parts. It supersedes the older number 8363717, so a part carrying that number is the same part.

It fits every E36 body style (318i, 318ti, 320i, 323i, 328i and M3, 1992–1999), with the M42, M43, M44, M52, S50 or S52 engines — and the European-market versions. It also fits every E46 body style (316i, 316i 1.6, 316i 1.9, 316ti and 318i, 1998–2003), with the M43, N40 or N42 engines.

BMW draws it on 9 diagrams, among them Control unit/antennas passive access (61_1562) and Electric parts, airbag (65_0275). BMW's catalog calls for four of these at each place it is fitted. It weighs about 2 g (under 0.1 lb).
