This is a genuine BMW control unit DME programmed (exchange unit), part number 12 14 7 548 598. The number stamped on the part is 12147548598; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 7548598. BMW's catalog calls it “EXCH control unit DME programmed”. You will find it on our Electrical shelf, under Other Engine Electrical System parts. It supersedes the older number 7547817, so a part carrying that number is the same part. BMW has since replaced it with 7549096.

BMW's catalog records no E36 or E46 it is fitted to; it belongs to other BMW models.
