This is a genuine BMW emergency key (code), part number 51 25 7 681 201. The number stamped on the part is 51257681201; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 7681201. You will find it on our Interior Body shelf, under Locks. It supersedes the older number 7681197, so a part carrying that number is the same part.
BMW's catalog records no E36 or E46 it is fitted to; it belongs to other BMW models.
BMW draws it on 3 diagrams, among them Electronic control unit (51_2886) and Single key locking system EWS 3 (51_5340). It also comes in BMW kits Set keys inc. BMSK ECU (code) (8528837) and Set keys inc. BMSK ECU (code) (8528838) and 2 more.
We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
