This is a genuine BMW electric valve, part number 11 74 1 742 712. The number stamped on the part is 11741742712; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 1742712. You will find it on our Engine shelf, under Other Engine parts. It supersedes the older numbers 0396414 and 1741130, so a part carrying any of them is the same part. BMW has since replaced it with 7810831.

It fits every E36 body style (323i and 328i, 1996–1999), with the M52 engine — and the European-market versions. It also fits every E46 body style (325i and 330i, 2001–2006), with the M54 or M56 engines — and the European-market versions.

BMW draws it on 29 diagrams, among them Air Pump F Vacuum Control (11_2071) and Air Pump F Vacuum Control (11_6140). It weighs about 70 g (0.2 lb).
