06 View BMW DiagramSee this part on the official exploded view→Edge protection rear — a genuine BMW part, number 51 72 8 196 290. The number stamped on the part is 51728196290; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 8196290. You will find it on our Interior Body shelf, under Other Body equipment parts. It supersedes the older number 8174761, so a part carrying that number is the same part.
It fits the E36 sedan and touring (318i, 320i, 325i, 328i and M3, 1992–1999), with the M40, M42, M43, M44, M50 or M52 and other engines — and the European-market versions.
BMW draws it on 4 diagrams, among them Door weatherstrip, rear (41_0024) and Door weatherstrip, rear (41_0938). BMW's catalog calls for two of these at each place it is fitted. It weighs about 1.0 kg (2.3 lb).
We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
