The number stamped on the part is 54318170249; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 8170249. You will find it on our Exterior Body shelf, under Other Sliding Roof / Folding Top parts. It supersedes the older number 8170243, so a part carrying that number is the same part. BMW has since replaced it with 8170244.
It fits the E36 convertible (318i, 323i, 325i and 328i, 1994–1999), with the M42, M43, M50 or M52 engines — and the European-market versions.
BMW draws it on the Manual/Electromech.Semiautom.Folding Top (54_0180) diagram. It weighs about 4.8 kg (11 lb).
We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
