13 View BMW DiagramSee this part on the official exploded view→This is a genuine BMW cover, part number 54 12 8 172 091. The number stamped on the part is 54128172091; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 8172091. You will find it on our Exterior Body shelf, under Other Sliding Roof / Folding Top parts. It supersedes the older number 8119973, so a part carrying that number is the same part.
It fits the E36 sedan, coupe, touring and compact (318i, 318ti, 320i, 323i, 325i and 328i, 1992–1999), with the M40, M42, M43, M44, M50 or M52 engines — and the European-market versions.
BMW draws it on 2 diagrams, among them Slid.Lift. Roof-Cover/Ceiling Frame (54_0187) and Slid.Lift. Roof-Cover/Ceiling Frame (54_0189). BMW's catalog calls for two of these at each place it is fitted. It weighs about 20 g (under 0.1 lb).
We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
