02 View BMW DiagramSee this part on the official exploded view→This is a genuine BMW countersunk screw, part number 12 41 1 721 286. The number stamped on the part is 12411721286; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 1721286. You will find it on our Electrical shelf, under Starter motor with mounting. It supersedes the older number 1289484, so a part carrying that number is the same part.
It fits every E36 body style (318i, 318ti, 320i, 323i, 325i, 328i and M3, 1992–1999), with the M40, M42, M43, M50, M52 or S50 and other engines — and the European-market versions.
BMW draws it on 34 diagrams, among them Starter Parts 1,4kw (12_0509) and Starter Parts 1,4kw (12_0536). BMW's catalog calls for three of these at each place it is fitted. It weighs about 4 g (under 0.1 lb).
We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
