This is a genuine BMW compact alternator, part number 12 31 1 744 560. The number stamped on the part is 12311744560; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 1744560. You will find it on our Electrical shelf, under Alternator with motor and mounting. It supersedes the older number 1735792, so a part carrying that number is the same part.

It fits every E36 body style (320i, 323i, 325i, 328i and M3, 1992–1999), with the M50, M52, S50 or S52 engines — and the European-market versions.

BMW draws it on 2 diagrams, among them Alternator (12_0127) and Alternator (12_0128). It weighs about 5.8 kg (13 lb).

We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
