This is a genuine BMW collar bolt, part number 23 31 7 543 225. The number stamped on the part is 23317543225; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 7543225. You will find it on our Transmission shelf, under Inner gearshift parts. It supersedes the older number 1224850, so a part carrying that number is the same part.

It fits the E36 sedan, coupe, convertible and touring (325i, 328i and M3, 1992–1999), with the M50, M52, S50 or S52 engines — and the European-market versions. It also fits every E46 body style (325i, 328i and 330i, 1999–2006), with the M52 or M54 engines — and the European-market versions.

BMW draws it on 6 diagrams, among them S5D...Z inner gear shifting parts (23_0229) and GS5S31BZ(SMG) inner gear shifting parts (23_0940). BMW's catalog calls for two of these at each place it is fitted. It weighs about 39 g (under 0.1 lb).
