This is a genuine BMW cap nut, part number 12 42 7 565 287. The number stamped on the part is 12427565287; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 7565287. You will find it on our Electrical shelf, under Other Engine Electrical System parts. It supersedes the older numbers 0416297 and 1705494, so a part carrying any of them is the same part.

It fits every E46 body style (320i, 325i, 330i and M3, 2001–2006), with the M54 or S54 engines — and the European-market versions.

BMW draws it on 28 diagrams, among them Compact Alternator (12_1082) and ALTERNATOR PARTS 90A Valeo (12_1083). It weighs about 20 g (under 0.1 lb).

We have not had one on the shelf yet. Request it and we will tell you when one comes off a car.
