The number stamped on the part is 23311228470; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 1228470. You will find it on our Transmission shelf, under Inner gearshift parts. It supersedes the older numbers 1224198 and 1228318, so a part carrying any of them is the same part.
It fits every E36 body style (318i, 318ti, 320i, 323i and 325i, 1992–1999), with the M40, M42, M43, M44, M50 or M52 engines — and the European-market versions. It also fits the E46 sedan and coupe (316i, 1999–2004), with the M43, N40, N42 or N45 engines.
