Genuine BMW part 26 10 1 229 501: Balance weight. The number stamped on the part is 26101229501; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 1229501. You will find it on our Drivetrain & Axle shelf, under Drive shaft, single components.

It fits every E36 body style (318i, 318ti, 320i, 323i and 325i, 1992–1999), with the M40, M42, M43, M44, M50 or M52 engines — and the European-market versions.

BMW draws it on 7 diagrams, among them Drive Shaft-Cent.Bearing-Universal Joint (26_0105) and Drive Shaft-Cen.Bearing-Const.Vel.Joint (26_0125). BMW's catalog calls for four of these at each place it is fitted.
