This is a genuine BMW automatic transmission fluid ETL 7045 E, part number 83 22 0 403 248. The number stamped on the part is 83220403248; BMW's catalog files it under the short number 0403248. You will find it on our Car Care & Detailing shelf, under Paint / touch-up sticks. It supersedes the older number 0026922, so a part carrying that number is the same part. BMW has since replaced it with 2344588.

It fits every E36 body style (318i, 318ti, 323i, 325i and 328i, 1992–1999), with the M40, M42, M43, M44, M50 or M52 engines — and the European-market versions. It also fits every E46 body style (316i, 316i 1.9, 316ti, 318d and 318i, 1997–2004), with the M43, M47N, N42 or N46 engines.
